Brief: A large-scale WordPress-to-Squarespace migration and complete website rebuild designed to organise Fleur’s extensive body of work, improve search visibility and create an online home she could confidently manage.
Fleur McDonald is a bestselling Australian crime author with 28 novels, two children’s books and more than one million copies sold.
Her existing WordPress website had stopped working correctly and had become difficult to update. Fleur needed a reliable, easy-to-manage website that made her extensive catalogue easier for readers to explore, while also bringing her speaking work, online shop, writing course and reader community to the forefront.
We faced a few challenges:
A large 39-page website requiring a complete migration and rebuild
An archive containing 893 blog posts and years of images
23 individual books requiring clear, organised pathways
A shop containing 29 products
An existing structure that made Fleur’s books difficult to discover
The need to preserve existing URLs and search visibility during the migration
Creating a separate online community for Fleur’s most engaged readers
How I tackled it:
Migrated the website from WordPress to Squarespace
Restructured the navigation and content around Fleur’s books, series and reader journeys
Created individual, search-friendly pages for 23 books
Built dedicated pathways for Fleur’s books in order, crime series and children’s books
Rebuilt and organised the now 23-product online shop
Added a dedicated page for Fleur’s writing course
Created stronger pathways for speaking engagements, events and media opportunities
Set up URL redirects and rebuilt the site according to current SEO best practices
Developed the complete structure for Fleur’s private Circle community, the Inner Circle
Introduced a manageable ongoing blog-migration process through a Monthly Web Care Package
The new website launched on 1 March 2026 and gives Fleur’s extraordinary body of work the online home it deserves.
Readers can now find individual books, understand the reading order, explore Fleur’s latest crime series, shop directly and discover her speaking and community offerings without having to dig for them.
Behind the scenes, Fleur and her team have a much more dependable and manageable platform, supported by ongoing website care, content migration and SEO improvements.
This was my largest website build to date, and one I am immensely proud of.
