Mike Bowers - Award-Winning Photographer Website Build
Industry: Photo & Journalism
Brief: A refined, image-led website designed to showcase a lifetime of award-winning photojournalism.
Mike Bowers is an award-winning Australian photojournalist, author, and host of ABC’s Talking Pictures (and straight-up beautiful man). With a career spanning decades, his work captures defining moments in Australian and global history.
He needed a website that could house this extensive body of work in a way that felt organised, accessible, and true to the integrity of his photography.
We faced a few challenges:
A large and varied archive of work (books, essays, exhibitions)
Need to balance visual storytelling with clear navigation
Avoid overwhelming users while still showcasing depth
Maintain a tone that feels credible, editorial, and timeless
How I tackled it:
Designed a clean, image-first layout to let the photography lead
Structured content into clear sections: books, photo essays, exhibitions
Created a logical navigation system to guide users through a large body of work
Balanced white space and typography to support readability
Ensured the site feels editorial and archival, not overly “designed”
The final website presents Mike’s work in a way that feels both expansive and easy to explore.
Visitors can move seamlessly between projects, discover key moments in his career, and engage with his work without friction. The result is a digital space that reflects the depth, professionalism, and legacy of his photography.
It was such a thrill to work on this with Mike and also get to know him. How lucky am I?
“Kelly at Looking Glass Creative built my website and it was a fantastic experience.
My needs were complex and it involved so many moving parts. Out of the many hundreds of images I provided Kelly built a site with impact, clarity and ease of navigation and it simply has the wow factor I was looking for, I have no hesitation in recommending her services, she changed layout and images to meet my needs and i believe she offers great value for money, thanks Kelly, you were a joy to work with
